The Coalition of Higher Education Assistance Organizations (COHEAO) was established in 1981. The organization consists of universities and organizations who work together to support campus based loan programs (i.e. the Perkins loan program) and other financial assistance programs. They work closely with Congress and the Administration in an effort to maintain appropriations for the Federal Perkins loan program. The COHEAO helps keep individuals informed and connected with what is happening in Washington and provide a venue to write to Congress to support potential regulations (COHEAO, 2011).
They provide an e-campus-based report that outlines school participants, borrowers in default, borrowers in repayment status and the total principal on outstanding loan debt. In addition, they outline appropriations for schools (COHEAO, 2011).
They provide an annual legislative and regulatory report that outlines the various regulations they will be reviewing, supporting and promoting.
